How to Use a Cassette Player

Once the tape has reached the end of a side, if your player does not start playing the other side automatically, press “Stop” if need be, then “Eject.” Remove the tape, flip it over and re-insert it into the player and press “Play.”

Using a cassette player has proved to be a vital part of the audio experience. An audio cassette player is still required to listen to crucial audio documents, even though digital recording and playback has become more commonplace.

Make sure the tape player has a power source. If the player needs batteries, follow the schematic on the inside of the battery Caution Tape  compartment to correctly insert the necessary batteries in the player. Make sure the player’s power cord is securely connected into the wall if one is provided. Use the correct cables and connectors to connect any speakers, headphones, or other amplifying devices. You may need to turn on the player’s power switch, if it has one.

Locate and hit the “Eject” button. The sprockets of a cassette player should be turned to ensure that the magnetic tape inside is tight before inserting a cassette into the machine. The tape door will open on players having this feature. To play a cassette, place it in the cassette slot with the tape facing out. Close the tape door and make sure it’s fully shut before you proceed. You must first press “Eject” to ensure that the player is completely empty before inserting a tape. Then, position the tape as shown on the tape door and gently put it in.

After lowering the volume, hit “Play” and adjust the volume as necessary. Tape may be stopped by pressing the stop button. Press the “Pause” button to put the tape on hold for a short period of time, but keep in mind that the player is still running while in pause mode. “Stop” and “Fast Forward,” respectively, may be used to move the tape forward. “Stop” and “Rewind” may be used to recall the tape.

You may need to hit “Stop” or “Eject” if your player doesn’t automatically switch to the next side when the tape reaches the end of one side. Re-insert the tape into the player after flipping it over and pressing “Play.”

To temporarily pause the tape, press the “Pause” button, but note that the player is still in operation in pause mode. To move the tape along to later point, press “Stop” and then “Fast Forward”. To remind the tape, press “Stop” then “Rewind”.
