Variety of Christmas Cookies

My daughter and I both love to bake, and when Christmas rolls around, it’s fun to make different cookies. We also like to give Christmas cookies as a thank you gift.

A few years ago, my daughter and I baked a bunch of Christmas cookies and gave them to friends. It took us several weeks to finish them, as we wanted to make a multitude of cookies. I flipped through the cookie recipes and decided what delicious cookies I wanted to make. We selected our favorite cookie recipes including chocolate cookies, sugar cookies, peanut butter cookies, spritz cookies, and ginger cookies. And now we want to get our hands on the best cookie recipe! So new recipes were considered. We also looked at other gingerbread recipes, fingerprint cookie recipes, lemon cookies, chocolate cookies, and, let’s not forget, oatmeal cookies. In the end, we came up with a few Christmas cookie recipes.

I then made a long list of the main ingredients I was going to buy. Once we had all the ingredients, we could start baking. This would take a few weeks. Then the caroling started and the baking began. With my daughter, we baked her favorite chocolate cookies and sugar cookies. The fun part was decorating the cookies. The rest of it was. Done on its own. The Christmas music kept rolling. But the memory of baking with my daughter, with flour on her apron, is priceless.

After baking, we wrapped them up in beautiful Christmas boxes, and it was time to present them. Oh, and just so there’s no misunderstanding, there was also a nice tray of cookies for Christmas dinner in our house.

And most of the time, I was told that I liked them, but I wouldn’t make them myself. I was sad that the tradition of making Christmas cookies was buried under a long list of tasks. Why not switch out the Christmas cookies next year? Everyone bakes one kind of cookie and brings them to a fun party where they swap cookies and enjoy different cookies on the way home. So we started the project. We all had a great time.

It’s a great way to get into the holiday spirit and get together with loved ones. Friends, neighbors and family members get together at their homes and bring their favorite cookies and show them how to make them. This is how a new Christmas tradition was born.

You too can try the Christmas tradition of cookie swapping. We hope that our story will arouse your curiosity about this ancient tradition. Inviting guests, eating cookies, exchanging them, and simply enjoying each other’s company? Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?

You may be thinking, “I’d love to create such a Christmas tradition, but how can I exchange cookies? The good news is that there are great resources to answer your questions. This book takes you step-by-step through the planning process, contains forms and checklists to help you follow the plan, and ideas for hosting a simple but fun Christmas party.
